How much harddisc space is currently used by all samples?

I just have a technical question because i am interested to know how many disc space is currently occupied by all sample of the freesound project? This must be a lot cool because most of the samples a uncompressed (what is preferred).

    thanks

a lot indeed, but not too much for some users (which systematically download *every* new file)

YEah some are insanely dedicated. I bet they have a script running that uses the rss feed. If they even visit the place to read the forum (doubtfully), they are still missing a couple samples smile Upgrade your scripts please wink

Thanks for your answer, my guess was a much more wink But anyway, thats a lot. I calculated an average of 20 MB, with 200000 uploads you will get 4 Terabyte woot
But most of the files seem to be smaller ..

    Hi Erdie,
you added a "0" to the end of the file count - it's only 20,000  However, I agree, 40gig is not big at all, I'd have estimated it to be much larger

    Cheers!

well 20.000 samples isnt gigantic amount either. But again, who cares if theres a trillion terrabyte on there, the quality is a lot more important.

You´re really right. I know about other databases in the net, but with low quality samples like 10 kHz oder 8bit. This is IMHO useless. Most of the samples here are high quality and useful. grin
    Freesound is the best

sure and not even just the resolution of the recording but the stuff thats recorded/produced. I think freesound is becoming a very cool and extremly diverse place to find totall unique sounds that you might not be able to find elsewhere.

I think that is more interesting to know how much time represents those 35.69 GB. Each sound has its own process (record, edit, compression, upload...) and it requires much time from the users. Know how time of sound is in FS can show us how much time requires to have 20.000 sounds and have an idea of the effort needed to obtain those sounds.

Maybe Pitx means the ratio net/raw material (?). For instance, the last batch I uploaded to FS accounted for some 14 min, which were selected from 150 minutes of raw field-recorded sounds (i.e., around a 1/10 ratio). Anyway, the ratio will likely depend on the person, whether he/she records in studio or in the field, and a lot of factors (including time available for edition smile

No, you can't... Try having a look at the http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/legal.php legal part of this site.

I'd have to doublecheck, but as far as I remember, the ® character can't be used in our forum soft.

@Bram: But what is about samples, which are already released under creative commons somewhere? It is allowed to redistribute them under the same conditions, like here?

it depends on the license that is used on those samples. If the license on those samples is compatible with the one used @ freesound, sure you can re-release them...

If they're just samples you found on a random website, chances are VERY large those samples are NOT compatible with our license.
