    Yes, aye!

    Means yes!

If you didn't understand this, then that sort of is ironic given what I am talking about! smile  smile

Messages here are in English because people type them in English. If somebody (or something, like a bot) enters a message in Russian or Dutch or Klingon, it will be displayed in respectively Russian, Dutch or Klingon.
While I agree everything here should initially be in English, we eventually can't stop them from posting stuff in another language. In such cases, best you can do is let Google or any other online translation service translate it, like so: [link].

all is relative  to me "aye" sounds like Russian, or Tagalog...
and what a burden to read/write always in english...
but, if one wants to communicate...

I think you are misunderstanding me. I do not quite understand you. I am not talking about writing in English, I was mearly talking about translating posts and comments into English so that people who have set the language that way can understand it.

Matthew ... the post you refer to has been removed, and was almost certainly spam.
I myself remove them quite often after doing a Google search to check it's spam.
I've not seen any Cyrilic script post here that wasn't spam.

So yes, something should be done ... but NOT translation !!

I have seen or two posts that are in russian - and legal.
Most of the time one of our russian members ( http://www.freesound.org/usersViewSingle.php?id=256226 ) tends to reply those.

But yes - there is an awful lot of spam on freesound these days... sad
Hopefully we can tackle that problem in fs 2.0.

I am greatful for that answer. Whilst there may be legal posters in Russian, if they can't poste in English or their posts can't be translated, how can us English speakers help them?

That realy is the mane question of the topic.

Acclivity might have been playing with words with reference to your inability to spell your beloved English language. A spell check would make your posts much easier to read and offer greater clarity to your point when you have one. Did you mean mane or main ?

Yes, that is something I have called for and still think should happen. I am not the greatest speller in the world. If you want to join my campaign, you are welcome.
I didn't mean to do with horses, but the other one.

Thank goodness for free translators online. We just need to be aware that the most common of these online tools translate verbatim, no flexibility for the subtleties and cultural anomalies of the languages. BTW, "aye" certainly does not sound anywhere near Tagalog, I can assure you. cool

I agree with Bram. As someone who fluently speaks and writes-Russian and Spanish-i've seen maybe 2 or 3 legit Russian posts and very few spanish posts. Anything other wise has been spam.

Ironic enough I belive the majority of users here are from europe.

IN that case, I pose the question again, if those Russian and Spanish writers can't write in English, or their posts cannot be translated into English, what exactly are people supposed to do to help them?
    Please reply.

    Matthew,

people are free to have discussions in other languages on this board. If there are more than one person speaking Spanish or Russian (or whatever language) who want to discuss something in their native language, they are welcome to do so. If there are many of such discussions we will create a new board section for them. As far as I see it, this isn't needed yet because the number of foreign language posts is minimal, almost zero.

I continue to fail to understand why you feel the need to reply to every post on this board. It creates an additional overhead for people reading threads. Internet forums are not like email, people are not posting these messages for you alone, they are posting them for everyone to reply to.

Here is what you should do: if you see a post you don't understand (for example because it is in a different language) or a post to which you do not know the answer (for example because it is a technical or legal question you don't know the answer to), just IGNORE the message.

    - Bram, running a bit out of patience.
