    Dear All,

Posted this on the main thread, but since I guess most of you are following this thread, repeating the post here:

    ----

Just a quick post to let you all know that I was asked by one of the teams for a little extension of the deadline.
I am moving the deadline to 16/Dec 11pm GMT.

So far we have only 2 entries submitted and one nearly ready to be submitted.
If anyone else is closing to complete and could benefit from a deadline extension please PM me. I can only extend it so far... but might make the difference.
You can also PM me to say that you are not going to submit an entry - I know some of you had technical issues.

    alienxxx-snapper4298 - Entry submitted

Cool that alienxxx was persuaded by snapper4298 to choose Jeskola Buzz. Its an excellent tool for collab, nice compact, comes with many free machines.

The routing capabilities of this tracker are fenominal, I used it a lot for sound design. You can do a lot of out of the ordinairy things with it, that you wouldn't normally think of in other DAW's.

For anyone interested in the DAW/Tracker:

Mark van Achteren, friend of mine, has been running buzz machines website for many years. It contains links to many audio generators and effects as well as the tracker itself.

    http://www.buzzmachines.com/

I used to post designed sounds under s.van.leeuwen
    http://www.buzzmachines.com/reviews.php?type=sound%20example

Thinking of maybe I should render some of the sound examples there and post them as samples on freesound.org. There's some interesting tweakable sound design examples there. Although i havent posted there in a long time.

Anyway always nice to see Buzz is stil alive smile

I'm really sorry smile I've tried not to dilute this thread with content not strictly related to the dare, but give the praise to Buzz, this might be interesting:
(quoting from the description of the Debian Linux .deb package)

    Package: buzztard
    Description-en: Modular music composer
The Buzztard project aims to provide a modular, free, open source music
studio that is conceptually based on the proprietary Windows software
called Buzz. The Buzztard project itself has no direct link to Buzz
apart from its concepts that we build upon and is no 1:1 Buzz copy.
To allow migration for Buzz users, Buzztard provides song-file import
    and buzz-machine reuse.
    Homepage: http://www.buzztard.org

This might help Buzz live even longer smile

    @Copyc4t
No neeed to appologize. None at all, really: This is the 'DISCUSSION' thread. We are discussing what software we used to create dare entries. This is EXACTLY the kind of discussions that should be going on in this thread and your post is 100% relevant.

If I read you correctly, there is song-file import capability from Buzz into Buzztard. I will be very interested to know if there is export capability in Buzz format.
If there is, then it is a must that we do some cross-platform collab smile

    @Bliss
I have only barely scratched the surface of Buzz and a couple of machines.
Being a tracker, it did not strike me as the tool of choice for sound design. (did all my sound design on Reason's synths, except for the stretched seagull sound where I used Paulstretch) - Obviouly I have a lot to learn when it comes to Buzz.

If there is enough interest I will be more than happy to start a thread talking about Buzz (in particular where it comes to sound design, as it is very relevant for Freesound). This would probably go into the 'Production Techniques, Music Gear, Tips and Tricks', but I would let you guys know it is there.
You don't need me for this, actually - any of you could start the thread. smile

I know Snapper4298 is an absolute fan of Buzz. - Comes from his early days making music on the Amiga, which I also did.

Doing things differently, learning new tools and techniques are some of the main advantages of collabs.
Sharing the same software means we can excahge not just sounds and ideas, but also project files themselves. A lot can be learned by seeing how others have actually built a music piece.

    hmmmm..... erm..... I forgot...

    Heh ok thanks smile
The package descriptions explicitly mention import, and not all machines work because emulation is not complete, so I fear it's one way only; the buzztard forums aren't really rich in posts...

I thought about installing the original Buzz via wine, but it requires the .Net Framework 4 which in turn requires a Windows license; my only one is the laptop preinstalled one, but my laptop is currently out of order so I can't check that alternative...

I wish I had better news, but so far the best tools for cross-platform work are the natively cross-platform ones.

Just to let you know I am at present trying to piece together our entry. I will try to finish today. I hope that is within the timeframe. I am hindered by a computer system that has plagued me with problems since I got it nearly a year ago. It regularly crashes with no warning - mo blue screen... just either freezes or instantly turns off. I ahve become paranoid about saving what I'm working on every three minutes. If I remember. When I am engrossed in something and it hasnt crashed for a while I sometimes forget and yesterday I had done a good half hours work and I had just reminded myself I better save... Moved the mouse cursur to top left and it froze up about oh.... three pixels away from the save button. You would not have wanted to be within earshot when that happened I can tell you! Nothing I could do but do a cold reboot and start from scratch again.

This PC has exhibited this behaviour from new and it has been back to the shop that built it for me a gazillion times. They have replaced the RAM, replaced the power supply, replaced the vidio card and even replaced teh motherboard. In short they have pretty much replaced the whole thing! THey have pretty much thrown their hands in the air and are now almost seriously suggesting that it must be "haunted".

Sorry to rant on, but this has been very frustrating to me adn I hope you will understand why I may be a little late with the entry.

    Puniho

I will hold off closing the dare for a bit longer. As there is no vote etc, this is no big deal.
First time we are doing this, there aren't that many of us, etc. So it will not annoy anyone or delay anything if I delay it for another day or two.

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be the situation you have with your current PC.
Since they have changed everything on it, it is not a faulty hardware piece that is causing it. It is unlikely the computer is haunted, more likely that you have got a hardwarre combination that does not work well together or that you have a component that has a bad driver. - Are you using Windows 7, 8?

If I may allow myself a stupid suggestion... Could you back up your stuff and take it to the shop and ask them to wipe everything, install a previous verion of Windows and see if it becomes stable?

Re-reading my post I see I forgot to reply to this comment directly.
Of course we would LOVE to have sounds generated in Buzz added to the Freesound database.
If you were able to upload them with more or less detailed descriptions of how the sounds were created, that would be even better.

some words about music, related to
    https://soundcloud.com/escortmarius/synthopia-expedition-to
I had hw/sw problems, as told in the forum.
But I had also problems with this kind of music:
party-rhythmic music is not easy, even if melody and harmonization can be "simple".
I'm not good in rhythm, tend to kind of sad slow melody.
Escortmarius not only built the lead melody and the whole structure,
he also gave a happy jumping mood to all composition - party music indeed -
where my goofy notes are not so happy and chords are flat 4/4 without rythmic variations.
anyway I like very much the final result: well done escortmarius!

I will never think/say that party music is easy to do wink
The other entries confirm the complexity of a rhythmic piece: kudos to bliss-mojomills & alienxxx-snapper4298, excellent job!

and thanks again to you Freesounders for all useful tech suggestions!

Hi folks, it's great to hear the interest in Buzz, the tracker of my choice for the last decade. Sure I use other programs, but it all comes back to this baby that punches out sounds crispy crisp in time, for that professional dance feel. I can see from Bliss posts that he has had some serious input to Buzz and I was thrilled to hear there are other tracker nuts that love this system. One of the first main projects I produced on this tracker can be found here: http://www.stezzer.com/heyday.mp3 which I made to try and show off some of it's diverse capabilities. Even after all these years I trust in Buzz for a cracking result. If you get the time to download and try it, feel free to drop me a line to help get you started, it really is worth the effort, as AlienXXX says from our latest colab in Buzz. I'm on Skype too, Snapper4298 - feel free to add me and we can share some techniques, nice one ~_^ Maybe if we get enough interest, we can run a BUZZ dare, with endless possibilities ^_^

    Hi escortmarius,

Thanks for your update. I don't know how to start a new forum discussion yet but I have prepared a wepage tonight that gives useful information in setting up Buzz and using it.

    You can find it here:

    http://www.stezzer.com/buzz/buzz.htm

If you've already installed buzz you might want to uninstall it and start again using the instructions on my website. There are various versions of Buzz and if we don't use the same one, there will be compatibility problems.

Hope you enjoy and have fun in Buzz. Be sure to let me know if you want any help. I'm on Skype, my Skype Nickname is Snapper4298

    All the best

    Snapper
