Hi, all -
My name is Brian Brockhouse, and I live in Santa Clara, California. I'm a musician with several local bands (bass and guitar), and one of my bandmates recently started a company to produce one of those ambient-sound producing devices you might have seen / heard ... the sort of thing that will play surf sounds to cover up that traffic noise outside your window, or will play traffic noise to cover up those droning insects outside your window. He asked me to help design the soundscapes, and while I was trying to figure out what that might mean I found the Freesound Project. Here's my disclosure: this is intended to be a consumer product, and I want to use samples from this site in the soundscapes -- with the author's permission, of course, and within the terms of the Creative Commons license. I've already communicated directly to a few of you, and I'll be contacting more of you as our company gets its act together. Even if the product flops, though, I'm glad I found this community, and I hope I can contribute to it, beyond posting this note.
Cheers,
- Brian

Hi
I'm Patrick, born in June 1990, I'm from Finland and been making various kinds of music styles since 2001, basically electronic music. Studying audio/radio techniques and working in a local radio station.
What I really like about the Freesound project is that you collide with very interesting and inspiring audio files here, and Freesound has everything from drum loops to field recordings. Freesound is unique and the best. I have uploaded few dozens of files here and gonna keep doing it.
Hello, fellow Freesounders! I cannot tell you how much I enjoy recording for this site. It's a great hobby. I'm particularly gratified to be contributing to the work of artists who are inspired  to combine these sounds in original works. More power to you all! :!:
As a retired teacher, I'm using my audio blog to encourage other teachers to try broadcast journalism and radio dramatics as supplementary lessons for English (and other language) instruction. That curriculum, the foundation of two low power radio stations, has been effective for 30 years!

Hello all,
My name is Michael.
I'm not much of a sound designer however I love great original sounds to use. I just bought a Kurzweil K2600S and I also own a K2000 with sampling. I am 48 years old and I've been playing and writing music most of my life. I recently started exploring the possibilities of my Kurzweil and found I could almost recreate any sound with this instrument. I am still in the "Pre" stage of learning and someday hope to contribute to this site with samples of my own. For now I feel a little like a taker but I'm sure you all don't mind. I only joined this site today and I am finding very useful samples right off the bat.
I'm not sure how to post a picture so we'll skip that for now. Nice to meet you all and thanks for the sounds!

Hi,
My name is Henri, and I'm kind of a hobbyist sound guy if there is such a thing. I make on set recordings and sound effects for short films, plays, etc. I found this site while I needed an alarm sound in a rush for an amateur play, having no time to record and no money to buy it.

Hi all,
I've just joined today & have to say what a cool forum this is.
Oh, you can see me with the little ones in my avatar.
cheers,

I happened on the site for the first time today; I've just started outdoor sound recording, using a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder and for now a small powered Sony stereo plug-in-power microphone. I have what should be better, a larger battery-powered stereo microphone to try. Been daydreaming about building a parabolic reflector to be more selective.
Interests -- biology, baseline recordings to have some record of what a site sounds like now, trying to capture the frogs and insects and birds, knowing there are biologists out there who are developing ways to identify animals from such sound recordings.
Past interests include stereo movies, which were briefly doable with an early version of Mac OSX and an application called EvoCam. Haven't been able to make it work with later software, sad to say. Someday ...
