hey guys,
a quick reply to say that using the feedback posted here, both the design and the logo are being reworked.
the logo will become (much) simpler, just a squiggle and the word "freesound".
the page design will have less colors, and look more like a "clean slate" than what it looks like now.
Myles and Dmitry are working on that right now, we'll get back to you with more in a bit.
By the way, if anyone feels like trying your hand at a logo design, go ahead! (black and white only, please)

My two cents:
Logo 4 is the best, because it's modern (Web 2.0-style) as well as simple. Logo 1 is good too, but has an overkill on the gradients, logo 6 is also very good, but I don't like how the word "Freesound" is designed in that one. In my opinion the icon of logo 6 with the text of logo 4 would be perfect.
The other ones: logo 2 just doesn't feel right for Freesound at all, it reminds me of a bottled water brand; logo 3 is just not "Web 2.0" enough, logo 5 looks good, but the use of an equaliser to represent "sound" just feels too retro.
I bet quite a lot people here (not me!) can design a logo-sound cooler than (say) the start-up windows sound. A contest and later a poll could be done, and the winner given... a shirt? (surely Brian Eno got more than this for the windows sound!)
And yet, what should Nightingale designers do with the freesound sonic logo? I for one hate sound in web pages...

customizing is agreeable: in Renderosity.com each user can change the color palette and save it in the user profile, then the site will appears with the chosen colors. I find it useful expecially for the background color, many like it dark
Between 1 and 2 for me. I like 1 better, but scaling and 2-color / 3-color versions can be important when it comes to other media (particularly print and screen-prints). I chose 1 even though it probably doesn't scale as well as 2. The elegance won over for me.
Would be interesting to see a 2-color variant of 1...
so, what do you guys think about:

What do I think? I think I love it! Very simple bold and direct - in fact if it does not get used you will be getting an uploaded sound of me boiling my head.
Well done to whoever.
the final one will be a verion of this.
we will tweak it until it looks perfect!
for example, the waveform could be a bit thinner and the curves could better match the font.
we will also experiment with another font ( very similar one )

love it, but maybe it's too ascetic (?)

I'm liking this one too. I would love it with a reflection, like the top image here, but maybe make the reflection half the height of the original (vs. full height like this one):
