for me, it's obvious, we should not consider any degradation of a sound due to a compression. Because we are talking about hard disk space and bandwith, these two things evolve and become less and less of a problem for the most of us. Maybe freesound could integrate an automatic and compressed version of the sound as a choice for download?
48 khz and 24 bit is my norm for field recording. Because we finish the films at 48-24 at the Final Mix, so we go from beginning to end with these settings. 96 k would be interresting, but really, I don't see the day we will finish a Mix for Films at this rate because
of the processing and hd space requested...
I could see some advantage of using a 96 khz and pitching it down.....down....down and still playback a good sample...
OK! this version contains nearly everything which is needed.
I've also included some simple examples. (playback, searching).
Have a look at the sourceforge project page.
So feel free to create some astonishing apps!! (ok that's a bit of exaggerated!)

Greetings,
There seems to be two broad classes of contributions here, field recordings and samples/mixes. I figure I might as well find out how people tend to use field recordings so I don't unneccesarily limit the usage of my sounds. My perspective is field recording, I haven't got the talent or inclination for sampling. Field recordings, particularly ambiences tend to be longer, and so I mp3 mine, in the assumption that:
field recordings are more likely to be used as sound backings for other productions, probably low in level so mp3 isn't too much of an issue.
sampling seems to be used and fed back more, so mp3 is bad news as artifacts my build up be emphasised, and anyway the clips are short.
But then I don't really know if this assumption is valid. And I've already had one objection to using mp3
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=23639
and yet it's so tedious to u/l something 5 times as big. So how much does mp3 impair the usage of field recordings in practice. And, for instance, is not a 10min ambience recording in mp3 easier to use than a 2 minute wav version that you have to loop and risk the loop being obvious?
I obviously record in uncompressed format. flac would be the obvious solution but from other threads seems to limit the number of potential users.
So how big a deal is mp3 compression for users of field recordings? Maybe recordings where there is an obvious subject should be wavs, as these may be used as the basis for a sample, and ambiences are better as longer mp3s? Do most users just hate mp3?

choose percussion and then choose instrument sleigh bells. Terms of use is a little different than Free Sounds, but its pretty generous.(maybe more so in some ways...)
The terms are written at the bottom of the same page.
by all means! i'll have a listen
I'm in a recording-mania at the moment, but I suppose you don't want that lines spoken with a possible slightly German accent, do ya? ^__^
Regarding his name I assume he comes from Germany, too... So I know how hard it can be in the "big mean English-speaking world" out there in the web, heheh.
Hope studying English will improve my skills even more...
aww, but let's not get too off-topic!
hope the file will be approved soon...
Hello freesounders!
Due to a microphone lacking situation i am in at the moment, i need someone to record the following words. they need to be said in a news like fashion (this is for a college project). i will post the final result!
"Due to finacial, social and political situations, Christmas has had to be cancelled this year. The PM has forced all shops to close early december in order to avoid the christmas shopping rush. There have been no further plans to reinstate christmas as a national holiday. Children and adults will be carrying out their daily routine on the 25th of December from now on."
If several people could do it, that would be grand.
Long Live Freesound!
Connum
No guys, he yet apologized for his poor english so don't jeer...
Okay, sorry; no hard feelings, eh?
Heheh, will be dificult to find some alien "slay bells", but I can ask some friends of mine on mars and venus if they celebrate christmas and if there are any reindeers living on their home planets with integrated bells!
No guys, he yet apologized for his poor english so don't jeer...
I have just uploaded my files and hope it will be approved soon!
P.S. Oh and this is the wrong forum of course... Could somebody plz move it to the sound request forum? thx ^^

you mean to say SLEIGH BELLS
I will record something for you... Be patient and look on my profile page tomorrow, when a mod will have approved the file!

for a free semi-decent player (wave editor kinda program) check out Audacity
Curious. You shouldn't have to pay for anything to d/l and play sounds. You need to specify your platform - PC/Mac and what OS (XP etc)
to play Quicktime is free. Ignore the attempt to sell you QT pro and just d/l the basic version.
On a PC windows media player will play mp3s and wavs out of the box.
Don't pay a dime if you simply want to play the sounds.
I really dont want to download this "quicktime pro" however it wont let me download any of the sounds i want without having to shed abit of cash, im just looking for some new ideas.
the point is, besides musical programs such as cubase and sibelius, what is a decent peice of software for downloading music from this site and being able to play it?!
Mr.Red.
Actually, just this weekend I recorded some birds making noise outside my room. I don't think they were pigeons though- they don't make that low-pitched cooing sound.
I'll post it anyway...
ok, i did one too. Dont know if its usable though, because my speakers are broken (the higher frequencies arent played, and they are very bassy). Which of course manipulates very much with the sound. But you people decide if we´ll use it or not.
Hmm, hope i did it right. i called it "3rd re-recording of shower in the shower" or something close. But it havent appeared on the site yet...
Dont really have much time, since ill be away until next monday and are leaving in a very short while.
Best regards
