what is it called when something flashes by in the air?

    hi guys!

I do a bit of sounddesign for short movies and the like - I've done quite a bit of work and there is one type of sound I seem to always need. The sound of something flashing by the camera - like a sword being swung from L to R. I've tried to create the effect in different ways but I never came up with anything that really worked. So my question is this: What is this type of sound called?

Is i a "swoosh"? or what? And how to make them?

You can see examples of what I mean in this video:

when "death" shakes his head and whenever the little girl points somewhere, there is a distinct sound that accompanys the movement. What is that type of sound called?

    It is a swoosh.

Here's a link to a bunch of them.

qubodup often releases his sounds into the public domain, this one I think sounds a lot like what you may be looking for.

    Good luck. smile
