    isolating bird sounds

    Well...
I have a recording from inside an aviary in a zoo, and I want to isolate a particular bird sound. There are only 2 birds in the recording, but the bird I want to isolate is in the background.
The problem is that there's lots of noise from a waterfall fairly close up which makes the bird sound even further away. The bird's call is also quite low in pitch.

Here are sample recordings of the bird in question (not mine, though):
    Capuchinbird
    http://www.xeno-canto.org/XCspeciesprofiles.php?species_nr2=2827.00

Is there any possible way to isolate the Capuchinbird's call, or if not at least remove the waterfall noise and/or the calls of the closer, higher-pitched bird calls without affecting the capuchinbird? Maybe by isolating certain frequencies? I have tried noise reduction but that hasn't worked well at all - it made the bird's call even more distant.

I can upload the recording I have as well if anyone wants to try anything with it...

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Please do, it is such an interesting vocalisation. It might be just low enough to isolate quite effectively. I am willing to try.

    Here's the recording.

This was the only time the bird made any noise at all while I was there so I was lucky to get it!

Had a go at this clean up. You can get it at:

    http://www.david-higgins.com/capuchinbird1.wav

Done with Audacity using equalisation and noise reduction.

    Cheers

Sorry! That's actually the wrong bird. It's in the background, that low 'waaaaah' sound. Very un-birdlike I know. That's why I posted the page with other recordings of the same bird on it.

That's probably the clearest it's been. But it's not complete (I'm guessing because of the other, louder bird call). There's a little bit before that, and then of course the end is cut off. What program did you use?

I've taken another stab at it but could not remove all the sound from the other birds.

Again, just noise reduction and equalisation in Audacity.

    Cheers

The cheep of the unwanted bird 1.6 seconds from the start can be removed with a notch filter …

A free notch filter plug-in for Audacity can be obtained here … http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plug-ins ( about ¾ the way down the list).

    You can say that again.

After clearing snow for a day, this is what I came up with

What program/plug-ins did you use for this?

Izotope Rx EQ, denoiser and spectral repair and Adobe Audition (mostly lasoo tool in Audition to remove stuff between the harmonics)
