This may be a silly question, but I gotta ask. I am putting together an internet radio station for the sole purpose of using it to gain entry into a broadcasting school. I have the music and the broadcasting software, but in my stings, jingles, etc., would like to use production effects. I have had a gander at commercial sites, but don't really want to pay $100+ for stuff that I'm not going to use commercially. Also, I only want 6 to 10 effects, I think.
Is there anywhere out there that anybody knows where I can grab some effects, or will I just have to do without? If this is a  question, I apologise, but I have had a fairly decent look around, have pretty much found the answer is "pay up, bud", but thought I'd try here as a last resort. If I get back the expected answers, I won't pester anybody anymore.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Joseph.
If it's not going to be broadcast or anything, if it's used only in a private recording, you could just find any sound anywhere (even unfree) and simply use it. I've used music in my arts school application without permission and without paying for otherwise necessary fees. I think it won't get people in trouble.

But don't sue me if it does.

There are free VST effects, reverb, echo, Wah-Wah, synths, vocoder, etc
Google "free VST effects" e.g ... http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=results&st=f&q=free
Do Look a gift horse in the mouth: scan any free plugin for malware before installing it.
