    Announcement Tones from Airports/Train Stations/Etc

    Hi guys,

I'm new to this board...but I wanted to pass on my praise for this site...excellent resource.

In poking around, I stumbled across some samples that sparked a request in me.

Does anyone have any samples, or interest in collecting samples of the announcement tones/pongs that are used in airports or train stations?

There were a few already in the archive...the ones I stumbled across were:

    pariscdg announcement alert.wav
    01-barcelona-bcn-airport-gate39-announcement.wav

I think it's kinda interesting what tones are used in different stations (air/train)...as they are typically designed to be soothing and non-intrusive...and I'd definitely be interesting in hearing different ones from around the world...

I'm travelling by train tomorrow, so I'll try and collect some samples and post them next week.

    Bram,

I definitely did find those Kiev samples...and that (in addition to the Barcelona pack) 's what drew my curious about the tones. There's something very interesting about the ambient sound of a foreign airport.

It brings back fond memories of travelling...and being out of my element.

And in listening to them it also sparked my interest about the announcement tones....as they seemed to varied a great deal....but also have a unifying quality.

    Ashley75,

Thanks. At very least I'd be very appreciative if you just give a listen and see if there is anything interesting.

    kiki,

yes, true. i also know many more than just one person who likes announcements.

also, they always have an air of "location" in them: in the barcelona airport the stewardess speaks with a heavy accent. live announcements are almost always spoken in a "bored" manner as well, which is interesting, because in se it's a public performance!

"i don't care if you're listening or not but the train going from A to B....."

and then there's the traveling part as well, just like you say. it's strange to know that these strange announcements are exactly the ones you will hear when you're having a good time!!

I managed to get one recording. I will post it in the next couple of days. Parts maybe usable, but I wasn't in good form yesterday.
