Hi all im new to the site and finding it great. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the term given to the sound in say trance or house music where the beat builds up before say a silent part or a change in style. Im guessing its a drum kick fill? or snare fill? If anyone can let me know that would be great. Is there any of those samples on this site I can have a listen to?

Thanks in advance

Theres some good sounds there, Ive saved them and shall have a play about with them later.

Do you know the term given to the drum roll / kick roll used in trance/house music? If I knew the term it would make searching alot easier.

Im also wondering what the term is for an instrument that gets progressively louder (used alot in trance music also). I can make my own but am not sure what tool to be looking for in various music making software. An exmple would be the start of fatboy slims track - right here right now

Cheers Wink

Well from a musical point of view, an instrument gradually getting louder is called crescendo (see Wikipedia). However, I think in popular music, they just call it make it louder or fade in or draw the envelope so that it goes up.

Like a bouncing ball ? . The interval between each sucessive beat is shorter. The beat rapidly accelerates.

Thankyou, yes exactly like that bouncing ball but with a kick drum. Im wondering if I can get my hands on some pre made ones, when I make them myself they sound a little bit tacky. I came across one called a drumfill but I cant seem to find any more (I believe that was on a different site)

Heres an example

http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=22446

A crescendo is exactly the term I was looking for (I knew I should of listened more in school Rolling Eyes ) so now all I gotta do is find an envelope tool on the music making software im using (audacity, FL studio and MAGIX music maker)

Heres a couple of examples

Thanks for your help so far, if you have any other suggestions on samples please let me know

I have some samples I made using an MC505 groovebox I could upload so shall have a bash at doing so shortly

Accelerating in music is called... well... accelerando Very Happy Going gradually slower would be rallentando.

Some people call them 'build-ups.' Though that is really just the actual building up.

Really depends who you ask. A lot of people I know call a sudden change in style, meter or sometimes a key a 'turn.'

Thanks Justin Wink

By the way I uploaded some sounds for you all but cant see them appearing on the site. The uploader is a bit slow and complicated, not meaning to diss this wonderful site but just giving my feedback.
