Good idea!

First question: Am I allowed to mix sources before uploading them? I mean, can I ONLY upload unprocessed recordings?

How do we identify the samples as participants of the competition? Are the tags earth, wind, fire & water enough?

Good idea

Of course... Both regular 'recordings' and more processed/designed sounds are welcome.

Yes, but remember you want to tag one sound as "water", another as "wind" etc etc. I will create a special page that takes into account the date of the entry and the tags (i.e. give me all users/samples that have uploaded a set of samples where each sample has one of the tags wind/earth/water/fire that have been uploaded between the first and the last of this month)...

How much freedom do we have in the interpretation of "earth, wind, fire, water" ? Should we try to produce something resembling the real sounds those elements produce or we can go as far as our imagination take us ?

Thanks.

That's more up to you than up to us...

I think it's interesting to go quite far if you wish, but we still have to select a jury, and they might not agree...

hey

this is great Smile

I would like to ask

1. What do u mean by samples? How long can the audio be?

2. Can I submit electronic music in the competition?
For example, 4 songs i have composed which signify the mentioned elements. Ofcourse, all sounds in it will be synthesized or original recordings.

3. Can you give us some key points of assessments, so we know what the jury is looking for in the sample? (technique, originality, imagination, clarity, etc )

thnx

As this is freesound the submissions need to be SOUNDS, not compositions. We have already discussed this a lot and there is no definite border between sound and composition. Use your own judgement and think about song versus sound.

No. See above.

I think a combination of everything. But as we will allow very distinct sounds (recorded versus generated, for example) it's difficult to say which points will be of most importance. A beautifully recorded burning fire versus using granulation to sound like a waterfall...

still, i am confused about what you would consider ideal sample length. please give a range, like between 5 and 20 seconds?

A sample -like any sample on freesound- can be between 1second and 5minutes, or even more. But, as I guess there will be lot's of entries, better keep it relatively short'n'sweet.

Of course.

Freesound is based in Spain. We have all the prizes here (standing right next to me) and we will send them to the winner.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello and thank you for this contest.

What does it mean exactly "to tag" each element on our creation ?

Thank you.
