Note that there is now (October 2023) a much better version of this recording, at https://freesound.org/people/Philip_Goddard/sounds/705985/ .
Recording made on 8th September 2012 with a Sony PCM-M10 on a Hama mini-tripod, using the built-in microphones covered with a Rycote Mini Windjammer. I have used a graphic EQ profile in WavePad to compensate for the slight muffling of the sound caused by the Windjammer.
This recording was made while I was having an early lunch stop on the fairly high cliff-top just by the Ladies' Window (a rather spectacular natural arch) on the North Cornwall coast near Boscastle. Early in this recording a small motor-boat (I expect, fishing related) comes around and potters about, eventually going away, and then later on a speedboat comes along and then potters around (maybe a tourist thing or maybe fishing related), eventually going off near the end of the recording - but another is just approaching then.
Because of the very gentle sea conditions and the height of the cliff, this is a quiet recording, which reasonably accurately portrays, no, not what I was hearing while having my lunch (where it was a fair bit quieter), but what I heard when I went over to the precarious cliff-top situation where I had placed the recorder. With really good playback equipment with an extended bass response one can hear many deep little rumblings and 'whumps' as the very gentle waves presumably hit the end of small caves in the bottom of the cliff.
Please note that the volume level of this recording has been carefully adjusted for listening purposes, and ALL my recordings so far are meant to be listened to with a volume setting that would give a realistic level for playback of CLASSICAL music (a large but not exceptional symphony orchestra). If you have the right volume setting, you should not need to change that setting from one recording of mine to another.
Please remember to give this recording a rating!

I was walking near there today in calm clear October weather ; this is a lovely capturing of the beauty and complexity of the soundscape. Thankyou.

I've been looking for a sound of the sea that was from far-away, almost a birds eye view... so hard to find, this was perfect! thank you!

Great recording like the others recorded in that region. I like the one-cylinder diesel passing? pop-pop-pop.. It makes it alive. Very beautiful.
It reminds me to the holiday I had last summer at the Dutch coast where I've made some recordings. (search: 2012 sea klankbeeld)
Hope to hear more recordings there in the future (eg 50-100m from the cliff)
