Thanks for recording these samples and thanks for replying. Once I got your response I looked up coach gun. Yes, it isn't a shotgun. :-)

Yes dude, I was making a joke. I recorded those samples. And yes, it still shouldn't sound like a shotgun to you because it isn't.

vancedylan, I'm not sure what the link to the city of Winchester has to do with Winchester firearms, though it was nice to read about the city and see where it was located in the UK. There is a song about a Winchester Cathedral, and it must refer to this city.
I was referring to weapons manufactured by Winchester, a company that produced firearms, among those firearms being shotguns. And some of those shotguns being 12 Gauge.

I see from that link that they are no longer in the business, having spun it off. However, because of brand recognition Browning is still selling guns under the Winchester name.

If you go there you can download the catalog in pdf format and see the shotguns.

Was there a missing smilie in your post? i.e. were you making a joke?

It is a very nice capture, but this doesn't sound like a shotgun to me. It sounds more like a small caliber rifle (.222?) or a .410 shotgun. I can't say exactly why, but the sound isn't deep enough, and there seems to be the sound of a bullet while a shotgun would have pellets which are a different sound.

Maybe it is because you used three mics and that changes the sound. Or maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.

    Sigh....it's not a shotgun. It's a Winchester
