Walking through an Oregon coastal rain forest during a strong winter storm. I am about 1/4 mile from the ocean in a heavily wooded valley. It has been raining all night and the ground is covered with pools and small streamlets. The wind was blowing up to 50 MPH at the top of the trees and rain was coming down in mists and buckets. Here is a timeline: 0:00 A gust of wind shakes the water from the tree I am under. 0:30 I approach a couple of small streamlets emptying into a larger stream. The cracks you hear are me stepping on sticks. The low thuds now and then are large water drops hitting the microphone. 1:30 I hold the mic over the stream, to record the sound of water dripping from the trees. 4:51 I jump over a pool, landing in part of it, then come to a fairly quiet pool to record the drips. In the background is a small bird. Two trees creak as the wind rubs them against each other. 6:30 I move to a more open area and you can really start to hear the wind in the trees. 8:20 a really big gust rushes through the trees. 9:00 a gust knocks a lot of water from the trees down onto me, while you hear the trees creaking in the background.
