In June we had a very rare (for us) middle-of-the-night thunderstorm which woke us up at 4AM. I grabbed my recording setup and stuck the mic out the window on a pole (which reminds me I need to start using a wood pole instead of metal during thunderstorms :-). This is the complete recording. I like the very low rumbles at the beginning. I did not normalize it this time, so you will notice that it clips a bit at 1:29 during the "MassiveBlast". I measured the time from the lightning strike (at 1:26) to the thunder, which is 2.8 seconds. This works out to 2.8/5 = 0.56 miles (0.9 km) away.

The Perfect Thunder for the Perfect Laugh. Thank You!

The beginning of this recording has a wonderful, ominous feel, in my mind, at least. After the big thunderclap, it definitely gets more relaxing. Love it.

Thanks for this. Using it to illustrate the English word for thunder with my English language learners. So glad I don't have to stand there and say "boom!"
