A damn large (70 MB) recording made one very cold night (-17oC) through the quarter-open window with my new Shure SM58. 9 minutes of Moscow slums droning, with occasional sounds of dogs, something wicked coming this way or the other, etc. There's a highway nearby which serves lion's share of droning around here, - yet every noise is bounced from multiple walls providing some pretty seminatural reverberation. Hiss level had been cleansed up a bit, at some expense, of course, but the loss seems tolerable to me. Good luck in using this.

Very peculiar, sounds like a david lynch ambiance.
wchutlknbout, at that time that was the only thing I had. Took a look at Zoom thingie, thanks a lot; however in Russia it costs 1.5 times more than SM 58, unfortunately. Anyway, it is indeed an option.
Thanks for the much-needed room tone! But, you should look into getting a condenser mic for these more low-level recordings, the sm58 is for singing into! :) The Zoom H2n is a great option at close to the same price as your 58.
Excellent low level amb, thanks!
this is great for a videogame im making its about 6% done =/
