This is a recording of a recitation of the 54th Surah (chapter) of the Muslim Holy Book, the Qur'an. The reciter is Mishary Rashid Al-'Efasi of Kuwait. The meaning of this and the rest of the Qur'an can be found at http://quran.com/

Thanks! I'll use it as part of a "religious drone" I'm designing...

Hi Laurent, thanks for your comment. None of the sounds I have uploaded were recorded by me. The Qur'an recitation samples were recorded using professional equipment that is set up to record the Imam as he recites and leads the congregation in special night prayers during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. These recordings are then sold on tape and CD in shops. However there are no copying restrictions on any religious recordings in the middle east and so are freely distributed on the internet. The same applies with the Call to Prayer samples I uploaded. These were recorded from Islam's two holiest sites, both of which have been renovated and expanded recently and now include high-tech media control centres which also broadcast daily prayers live across the world. The recordings are carried out from there and again obtained and distributed. I'm not sure though, would these be categorised as field recordings?
