This is a recording of an "Adhaan" or Call to Prayer for the Muslims. It is carried out five times daily from a mosque in order to call Muslims for their prayers. This specific sample was recorded from the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, Saudi Arabia which is Islam's second holiest site. Each daily prayer here brings in many tens of thousands of worshippers therefore the PA system is quite powerful.

Please do NOT use this sample in any sort of musical production.

I am not Muslim but thank you for this recording. I find that listening to this first thing in the morning when I wake up starts my day off on the right foot. It sounds beautiful. Thanks again.

For maxcap and everyone else who'd like to know the meaning, here is the transcription--transliterated and translated to English. Every line but the last two is repeated twice.

IMO the most haunting and beautiful word here is "Allah", the name/word in Arabic that refers specifically to the One God. I hesitated to translate the name to just "God" as they are not quite close (both in meaning and in sound :) but i hope that will make it easier for more people to understand.

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (God is Greatest, God is Greatest)
Ash-hadu al-laa-ilaaha-illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but God)
Ash-hadu anna Muhammad ar-rasulullah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God)
Hayya 'ala 's-salaah (Let us go to prayer!)
Hayya 'ala 'l-falaah (Let us go to victory!)
    Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar

Hauntingly beautiful. I was moved by it even though I'm not a Muslim...
