This is a sound that had me mystified for many years. There was one particular time I heard it - by Loch Laidon in May 1993, while I was waiting at Rannoch station for the evening train back to Fort William, having just completed for the third time one of my mammoth classic single day walks - from Corrour station, to Ben Alder and then down to Rannoch station. I incorporated something of that experience in the third (final) movement of my 4th Symphony (Highland Wilderness), with improvisations on the snipe sound haunting one particular section. It was actually not till last year that I finally established the identity of the bird producing that strange sound.
Thank you for this little memento of that very special experience!
Wow, what a beautiful recording. This is really a lovely atmosphere to sink into.
I love those trolleys one can hear every now and then, just moving along and creating some special sort of echo. And one really gets the feel of a huge roof, covering for the sound to escape.
Beautiful recording. This black grouses is very rare in holland. Seen only once in Holland this year. Thanks for the up-load. Was a pleasure to look at your pictures.
That/is a joy to listen to, thank you.
very nice. i'm confused (new here) by the copyright, can we or can we not download it? how does this site work?

I thought he claimed to have been in a cave? Is that a romanticisized version?
Lovely recording, really clean and choice of sound isn't overly complex.

Thanks!!!!
Why does it have so much noise in the background? I'm planning on buying the OKM Classic Studio but i was expecting very much less background noise.
