I wanted a recording of water that didn't include the sounds of the forest/city surrounding the water source but I don't have any directional mics. So instead I attached a contact microphone to a piece of acrylic and let the acrylic bounce around in the water (the contact mic was connected to the inpus in my Zoom 2 Hand Recorder). You can still hear some non-water sounds but they are the acrylic scraping the sand at the bottom of the creek/hitting a rock.
