South of the village Nieuwkuijk in the South province Noord-Brabant in he Netherlands is a very small natural reserve “Nieuwkuijkse Bosje”.
Just to listen and fall asleep.
What you can expect in this recording:
A calm ambience of small wood and farmland environment, the hum of the wind in the bare threes, birds (craw, tit and more to determinate by a volunteer freesounder :-), low-level local traffic on 200m, people walking and calling and whistling there dogs that bark sometimes, two cars having fun toot, church-bell, sometimes an early insect thinking that spring is there, a far high altitude jet-plane at the end.
About the area
The 'Nieuwkuijkse bosje' (grove) is located South of the 'Heidijk', a dike that protected the village for floods of the river Beerse Maas. This river is not there any more (the Dutch changed all the land to be protected from flood). The dike is build in the Middle Age. On the night of December 29-30 1880 high waters and storm the dike broke. The hole of 150m wide created a water behind the dike “Nieuwkuijkse wiel” (see geotag). Because of the enormous force of the water the wiel is 15m deep. These wielen (wheels) are common in Holland with all his water and rivers there are a lot of wheels behind every dike along every river. When you go on google maps and search the rivers in Holland you can see them everywhere close to the river (nice for a rainy Sunday). Every wiel is a dramatic story of those days.
The grove here is an eight-acre varied deciduous forest, which is installed in the outer dike wetland area. You will now such as oak, elderberry and rowan berries. In addition, there are many different types of mushrooms, such as the parasol and toadstools.
