An ambience recording of a cycle race for male amateurs that is on Saturday and Sunday al over the Netherlands and Belgium. These race are called “rondje om de kerk” (round round the church). The cyclist come from Belgium and the Netherlands.
I made this recording at a spot where people can cross the parcour, 300 meters from the finish. The volunteer supervisors, mostly pensioners, give permission to cross over. They talk in the local dialect of the hamlet Maaskantje in the province Noord Brabant.
It's close to a café where people follow the cours.
To keep the race alive and to have some small prices for the cyclists, local stores, shops, engineers sponsor it. The speaker tell's who these people are, including there website's names.
50 years ago, when I was a small boy, the ambience was just the same.
This day was a sentimental journey for me and hope that these races are there for an other 50 years It's so friendly atmosphere.
