April 10th, 2012

These owls were recorded around 8:30 at night in the Shawnee National Forest using my trusty Rode NTG-2 on a mic stand. Even though it was a mild night and the insects and frogs should have been vocalizing, they weren't. It was kind of neat -- a dead-quiet night with nothing but these owls. If you thought that owls only do "hoot-hoot" you'll be surprised. After about a minute into it they really get going.

Thanks for using the owls in this nice peace...I like how you missed them with your Hohner....I am glad that one of my favorite nature recordings is on this wonderful creative piece. :)

Hi - these sounds are so evocative, so rich! - I used this recording as part of a sound collage on a track called "Emigrants and Exiles"
You can listen to it here if you like.
