Exterior silence, recorded in White Sands Desert, New Mexico, no wind, no airplane, no cars, just a small air hiss. The recording has been done using schoeps MS along with DAT decoded in ST at 48-16
my teacher in sound effects is a relatively famous person in movies. he tought us something that hasnt occured to any of us - there is no silence in the movies. not even when no apparent sound appears. why? because u always have a room/ambience sound. shut down all controllable sounds in your room and close your eyes. you hear that? go to the woods at 6am and listen. now go to the same spot at 6pm and listen. record it, then wait for the seasons to change and do the same. the "silences" change.since that lesson we always put "silences" in our scenes and we dig hard to find ones that fit just right
so thank you martypinso, this is perfect for what im doing now.
...well, I guess this is just the noise of the pre-amplifier. it's too constant for a natural atmosphere.
...but the idea is nice! ;)
