this lengthy recording was made in the small park between the Yeni Camii (New Mosque) and the Misir Carsisi (Egyptian Market) in the Eminonu district of istanbul, Turkey. There is a long section of ambient sound which includes conversation in Turkish and American English (tourists), ferry horns, birds and traffic. At 11'47", the early afternoon ezan (call to prayer) begins...this day at about 13:00. The distortion of the voice of the muezzin (caller) is his, not mine! Since there are many other mosques in the area, other muezzins may be heard...I have made no alterations to the sound of this recording; no eq or noise redux...it is as I recorded it 2006-05-01.
