The other day I discovered a thread titled "The coolest sounds on Freesound," and the first sound shared was that of an old Epson printer making a ton of noise. Something prompted me to try making a song out of it, and because I was unable to sleep last night due to a nasty cough, I spent the night messing around with it. It's not finished, but I like where it's going.

Once it's complete, I'll add the link to the final piece.

So it's been nearly 18 months since I originally posted this. Sadly I hit a creative wall with the piece, and have yet to finish the song. It's a common problem I find: I can come up with a good riff or short snippet of a song, but fleshing it out into a full piece is often difficult. However, I was recently inspired to use the same printer audio to make a cover version of a favorite song. The idea really has me excited to dig back in and mess with the sound again, and I'll post a new thread once it's complete.

Okay, this just totally blows my mind.

Several months ago I found an interesting course on SoundFly about making music using found sound (created by one of my favorite artists, Andrew Huang), and shared my "Dark Print" in-progress piece in the class comments. Imagine my shock when I open my email this morning and find a note from the SoundFly blog (FlyPaper) telling me that I was featured in their latest blog post:

http://flypaper.soundfly.com/discover/6-more-rising-artists-on-soundfly-right-now/

I wouldn't exactly label myself as a "rising artist" by any stretch, but the exposure is still kinda nifty.
