This capture is from the stone steps descending from the Fife Coastal path.
Waves crash onto the rock armour revetment; a coastal defence structure, protecting the shoreline from erosion and flooding.
Some birds can be heard offshore, along with the occasional noisy tourist in the distance.
The 'Haven Town of Wemyss' was the village's original name, highlighting its status as the primary port for the region.
The inner dock was filled in with colliery waste and rubble from demolished houses in 1964 after falling into decline.
In 1590, the village gained grim notoriety when an English plague ship (a "barque") docked at the harbour, accidentally introducing the plague to Scotland.
