I think it would be very appropriate to have an ice-breaker for the Collaborators Collective to get things started...
Simple ideas work best, so here it is:
Create some loops (10 max) and upload to Freesound.
They need to be 120bpm or 90bpm, so they will work nicely together.
If you create a mellody, make it C-Major (that is the piano white keys only). - This makes it really easy for musical idiots like me and, again, means the different loops have a good chance of working together.

And that is it. You can use any sounds or instruments you like. smile

As you can imagine, the idea is taht you listen to other people's loops and say "Hey, that's good! We could make something out of that." - And off you go!

Post here, with a link, to let me know when you uploaded any sounds and I will try to make sure they get moderated fast.
Also, would be great to have comments on people's sounds and some initial ideas postd on this thread also.

I want to believe.

Oh yeah. Ice Breakers. Here they are:
http://www.freesound.org/people/zagi2/sounds/218200/
and
http://www.freesound.org/people/zagi2/sounds/218197/
They are just rhythmic parts.
One can loop them endlessly, add melody, shread...whatever.

I've slowed down to 120bpm the intro of a news jingle I made some time ago

http://www.freesound.org/people/copyc4t/sounds/218372/

Loop play in Audacity sounds seamless.
Evil me, it's not in C Major! ... A minor, still just white keys wink

More intended as brainstorming material than usable directly in music.

Dear Freesounders, thank you to all that have registered so far!

@ zagi2, copic4t and luckylittleraven
Thank you for your sounds, lets see if others find them inspirational smile

@ luckylittleraven,
We had some IM discussions and I know you were initially concerned that your full instrument loops might not be the best raw material for the ice-breaker.
Just to demonstrate pretty much any loop can be transformed and used for something else, I have posted a few transformed versions of one of your loops:
http://www.freesound.org/people/AlienXXX/packs/13848/
These are not master pieces, but rather a proof of concept. I have only used a limited range of techniques and effects: manual slicing, EQ, filters (and some bogstandard reverb and echo)

When faced with a busy loop EQ and slicing can be very useful techniques:
- EQ splits it up in frequencies, so you can eliminate certain sounds or frequencies ranges so you have room to make changes and add your own instruments.
- Slicing splits it up in time. You can create spaces (silence) be removing some of the slices or or pan them left/right to create space in the mix. You can sometimes isolate individual sounds and even re-sequence the slices to create a different rhythm/mellody.
- Combined together you can (to some extent) isolate individual sounds in time and frequency range.
Easier to do with some loops than others...
... but the point is:
Don't let a busy loop put you off !

Sorry if I was too boring, but this is the kind of discussions I want to encourage, so people exchange ideas, try things, get inspired.

I want to believe.

When it comes to brutal sound mangling in the most creative/destructive ways, I think The 'Continuum' is still a great showcase:

I have already found lots of small but profound inspiration and look forward to trying out some new (to me) techniques and ideas.
Thank you Mr Alien for clarifying things for me a little and for the concept. It's fascinating the things you can do to a sound to change it with some techniques and imagination.
@copycat hey buddy your link doesn't work? But that thread is so interesting. I love the way it changes so much - that poor twisted sound went through so much LoL!
@zagi2 Uh-oh! I am inspired to mangle one of your loops grin

He he, I was sure you'd find The Continuum quite interesting!
Sorry for the inconvenience, my latest sound hasn't been moderated yet, I didn't put the usual "moderation pending" note smile
By the way, kudos to the staff for the Uploads section where we can check the status of all our new files, it's really helpful!

Guys, you need to check this.
I was just messing about... Timbre has really taken it to the next level:
http://www.freesound.org/people/Timbre/sounds/218709/
You can really create a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT track from this.

Really love some of the quieter sections where you just have these sounds lurking, resonating in the background.
Funny, I did EQ the bass out but there is one section there where there is quite a bit of bassa and even rumble just after the middle point of the file.
Again some rumble around 2/3 to the end of the file. - how did that get there? smile

I want to believe.

That is really awesome, creepy ambient thing! Timbre's actually posted on a few threads and has some really interesting techniques which I want to try when I have the time. zagi2 I was going to pretty much destroy your really cool loop by doing something like that (!) but I would love to have a music collab sometime. So much to learn but this is motivating me to think outside the box and try something different smile

My little track, 90 bpm, is here (not yet moderated):

All the sounds in the track were downloaded from freesound. I've listed the attribution in the description.

Too lazy to tune them to C Major wink

On a side note, this is an awesome program for stretching:

Just sent you a private message, but since we're talking about porn, I guess I can make the announcement public. Yes, you can.

Wait, did I do it the other way around?
