Hello everybody

I recently tought it would be nice to have a sample board of voices here at Freesound, in as many languages/moods/flavours as possible. If you have a recording device of some kind and you are willing to help you can contribute, no special requierements as regards sound quality (a small electret condenser mic, a tape recorder, MD, computer mic, anything would do)

Although my voice is not particularly nice, I started uploading two samples in Spanish: http://freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=46296
http://freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=46295

In the first I say 'Sound must be free' , and in the second I read part of the leading paragraph in Freesound main page: The Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds. Freesound focusses only on sound, not songs. You can translate and use these two sentences, or use any other of your choice as the content doesn't really matter, the idea is getting a sample of your language/voice.

I bet some Freesounders have *very* nice voices, and we all would love listening to you, your brother, your boyfriend, your mum speaking Russian, English, French, Catalan, Dayak, Dutch, Italian, Arabic, Basque, German, Japanese,... Come on !

Best regards

D

PS, it could be a good idea to tag these samples (at least) 'Freesound' 'name your language' so they can be located easily

PPS BY ADMIN: later in this post it was agreed to use the tags: global-village and freesound-text for these recordings.

PPS: edited to fix the links to point to fresound.org

I'm in with American English according to Mike the Auctioneer recorded quietly so as not to wake my wife up which would be a whole new sound for Freesound.

Hammerklavier, at least you will still be able to play the piano after having the flu.

dobroide,

Thank you so much for the compliment. I think this is a terrific idea, and I hope they can put all the samples in the same sample pack. It would even be interesting to hear the regional differences or accents making the same statement.

I also posted "Sound should be free." tonight.

Corsica_S
My girlfriend recordedthis for you. Fun idea.

I listened to it, lovely. My congratulations to her for these super-cool 's' (much like my own S Spanish ones BTW, ha ha). And the resonant vowels (freesOUnd, sOngs) are great too, people don't miss this voice! And.. well... the recording is excellent also, Corsica, but that's no surprise smile

I like the first one better. There must be 100 ways to say the same thing.

it's ok hammer, get better.

By chance I have just discovered a radio station in Barcelona broadcasting in a number of Asian languages (urdu, benghali, tibetan...) Asked them for a few samples for Freesound, but in the mean time those interested can listen to it here: http://www.pakcelona.com/index2.php

I agree, Bram. I'm new at tagging and I'm afraid I didn't do a very good job.

I suggest using global-village as a common tag. Descriptive and simple...

sound good but better something... more detailed.

global-village-fstext

or something. that way you can later use other tags to tag likeminded things.

or, use 2 tags:

global-village and freesound-text

hammerklavier: tags are like packs! smile

but imagine: we have to store all the packs on the server as pre-created zip files.
imagine a pack where everyone could add things: the pack would soon grow to a HUUUUUUUUUGE zip file!!

anyway, let's try to stay on topic here!
