    webradio

    Hello everybody!

Some months ago I tried to create a Creative Commons music only webradio, by using a free platform. The platform conditions changed and I had to deactivate the radio.

Now I'd like to try again to create a webradio,

    BUT

I'd like to use another platform SO I need money.

I thought to create a website and put in the Paypal donation button... and wait... smile

    BUT

I'm italian and I discovered that italians laws are not clear about donations to persons sad
For example the law say that a person can receive donations without pay taxes if "the amount of donation is low" ,but don't say what does it mean "low".
Anther example: If I display a minimum or a max for each donation I must pay taxes and create a company, also if the donations are low.

Obviusly I don't want to have problems with the law...

    BUT

I think that in others countries is different... sad

    SO

I'm looking for someone that want to collaborate with me creating a Paypal account to riceive donations, and (if we receive enough money,of course...) collaborate with me to manage the webradio (music and,in the future, news about fair trade, linux, green economy...and so on... - the dream is this...)

Tell me what do you think about

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to post here.
I have a similar idea, webradio with only CC music and CC (and other Open Stuff, like hard- and software) news. Unfortunately I don't have the time nor the money to set this up right now. But I can tell you of my plans.
I wanted to make a regular podcast instead of 24/7 webradio. It's easier to make and you will get more listeners. It would be just one hour or so. Podcasts can be hosted at for example archive.org, using CC licensed material, you can upload it there. On the webradio's website, there would be a clear link to the latest podcast, complete with user discussion, like any other weblog. Add links to archived shows.
Additionally, I thought, it could be nice to make video recordings during the recording of the show. Make a selection and you can put it up on websites like YouTube or blip.tv. Again, on the website, you can embed these.

The biggest problem is getting a proper studio together. You'll need something to record the audio on. This can be a computer, but if you're also using it to play songs from, you can't always record at the same time. I happen to have a good audio recorder, so my plan was to use that. I also have good mic. I can play music from computer, CD, DVD and MiniDisc. If necessary, I can edit using the computer again. Next thing, you'll need a mixing console to put all sound sources together. I don't have a good one, but they aren't too expensive (though depends on what you think is expensive). Alternatively, just record your voice dry in segments on your computer and create the entire show in your favourite audio editor (as a Mac user, I would be using GarageBand for this). This would only require a good microphone and connection to your computer. If you don't want to speak, it's even easier, just select the songs you want and line them up in the editor. But of course, it's more entertaining if you have something interesting to tell your audience.
And then you need to have a huge music database to choose your music from. They have to be different styles, however diverse you want to be, and you ideally need to have as many male as female singers (when playing songs, alternately play male and female singers, this will help keep your audience entertained). Within one show, try to keep styles close together. You can make a few podcasts with a different style, but you don't want hardcore beats right after a girly lovesong. To be honest, when I listened to your streams, this is what happened a few times and made me stop listening.

Well I probably have more things to say, but can't think of any more right now. Hope this helps you so far and given some ideas. I'd like to hear what you have in mind too smile

Unfortunately I don't have the money to set this up right now.

me too... the idea of donations was for this reason...I think that if a person like the project can donate a small sum...and if the people are some the sum become enough... smile

Yes, it's a good idea but it requires more time and more update than music only. I seen and I'd like to use a web-based platform that can be managed from different people (so, for exemple, I can upload songs and create some playlists, you can insert your podcasts...ond so on - live or random)

When I created my streams I didn't have much time for searching music and manage the radio... now too grin and It's one reason to looking for others persons helping me to create the project

Yeah, I see what you mean. But I think live streaming has the problem that your audience is very narrow. I regularly listen to podcasts, and it's great, because I can choose when I want to listen. This of course isn't an issue if you're only playing music, but if you find someone who can make a show with info, you will always want to have this available as downloadable. But you can have both, kind of, have the podcast play 'live' during a stream and have it available as separate podcast.
