Something along the lines of chinese/indian/arabian.
I've got a few of them but nothing useful to me as of yet. The quality on them is damn horrible.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
A good topic to add my request as well. Additionally to this eastern kind of samples I'm looking for very western ones. Means dsamples from brasil, like berimbaus, atabaques, pandeiro? any suggestions.
@skandaliss: I didn't like to disturb your request. just expand a bit. I'm looking quite for the same and those mentioned above
Om namah shivay
I do everything for free or cheap so here are some suggestions.
1. Check out the post I made a while back looking for the same thing. Lots of plugins and things you can do with freeware.
2. Go here:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.musicmall-asia.com/malaysia/instruments/Erhu/&e=1102&mr=7,_!//8223,!b_U:abldd:cntl
There is a whole malaysian musical instrument soundfont bank there. use Xtrakk or Awave Studio to strip the wav's from the soundfonts. I did, it worked and they are half way decent.
3. Google the instrument name and "wav OR mp3 OR aif NOT ra NOT rm". This finds wav and aif files which are better quality (if sample rate isn't 11k crap) and even some mp3's are salvagable. You might have to get in there and disect the sound to get some usable sustained notes. I did and got some decent results. Forget trying to use real audio or AU fomat crap... these are relics from the days of dialup and are such crap that you can't do anything with them, I tried.
4. There is a complete Gamelan multisample website out there in decent quality with all the instruments:
http://www.marsudiraras.org/gamelan/wav_variants/
5. Try this:
ftp://ftp.mfi.com/pub/keyboard/patches/
Korean percussion and other samples in wav and aif.
6. Check out this site I found:
http://www.herman-witkam.com/raw/home.html
You register and get a password and you can get gigstudio and kontakt files of traditonal instruments. I am working on stripping the wav's now with chickensys or some other software. Check out the demo's.
7. Never give up. I search everyday looking for a new sound and have asked the people at the sites and gotten rare things like the complete sample set from a "magical musical thing" and Vietnamise lutes. You never know when a new post somewhere in the world will have that sound you are looking for. Free the sound.
I own a Gambang (kinda like a small xylophone made out of bamboo, but I don't think it's culturally accurate), a djembe (african), some sort of flute, and a couple other miscellaneous shakers and drums and woodblocks and stuff. Here's an example of a small song I did with all of my percussion instruments and my flute (sounds kinda african):

If you tell me what you want, I might be able to record some stuff, but sampling them would take quite a while.
Hi, do you have the samples from www.musicmall-asia.com? If you do, do you mind sharing? Because the website seems to be brought down. Kinda in need the malaysian instruments sound samples.
Thanks

Remember the internet archive
https://archive.org/index.php
Search for the names of the instruments.
If you can use VST instruments, look on VST4free.
They have a section on ethnic/folk instruments. Some of them are sample based.
