Following the latest ‘Dare the Community’ I’ve finally hooked up my dirt cheap RTL software radio dongle to the formerly disused ‘masthead amplifier’ on our roof. Here are some English truckers(?) chatting over CB radio. They seem to be talking about one of their mates growing a beard and suggesting they ‘give him a Quran’.

Good sound, though I couldn't really make out what they were saying. Sounds like FM received with an AM receiver. If you are trying to listen to fm signals with an AM receiver, you can listen up or down a few kilohertz and you'll get a cleaner signal, it's called slope detecting.

Yeah, the FCC is (I think) the equivalent of Ofcom, which is the broadcasting regulator here in the UK. Ofcom recently legalised single sideband and FM transmission on the CB, after abolishing licensing for CB, so there’s been renewed interest in the band round these parts.

It's funny, I was just reading something completely unrelated which also happened to mention CB radio. They were saying something along the lines of how electromagnetic wave communication is regulated by the FCC in the US.
