This is a traditional Shia religious song recorded in the offices of Iraqi political figure Moqtada Sadr in the southern Iraqi city of Naseriyah in 2004. This song was recorded by me during the production of my 2006 documentary film, IRAQ IN FRAGMENTS. The documentary may be viewed for free on my portfolio site: www.jameslongley.com
The lead vocal is sung by a 12-year-old boy named Karrar. I have combined the vocal recording with a sample of a drum sound recorded during a Shiite religious ceremony in southern Iraq in 2004. This version of the track was used in the film, and adds synthetic sounds created in Apple Logic using the Sculpture instrument.
