A May afternoon at the Churnet Valley Railway.
Class 33 No.33102 'Sophie' can be heard idling quietly in Cheddleton Station amid the spring birdsong. The peace is suddenly shattered as TKh49 no.2944 'Hotspur' whistles impatiently to get away. They depart sedately in the direction of Consall.
Class 33 No.33102 'Sophie' sounds it's horn as it approaches Cheddleton. Church bells are faintly heard amid the birdsong. The crossing gates are closed. TKh49 no.2944 'Hotspur' can now be heard as the train pulls into the platform. The air brake pump pants rhythmically. A pheasant is heard in the nearby woods. Station duties over 'Hotspur' whistles enthusiastically and 'Sophie' replies. 'Hotspur' heads the train away towards Leek Brook junction with 'Sophie' providing sterling rear end assistance.
Beside the River Churnet with the Caldon Canal behind us looking across to Cheddleton Station. Class 33 No.33102 'Sophie' sounds it's horn and pulls the train forward to the Water Column to allow TKh49 no.2944 'Hotspur' to fill it's tanks. Once the water stop is completed 'Sophie' and 'Hotspur' exchange whistles and horns and depart for Consall on this wonderful sunny May afternoon. A barge passes on the adjacent canal as 'Sophie's' horn is heard faintly on the breeze.
